My top three movies are Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful and What Dreams May Come. I suggested to Amy that the common thread is overcoming death. She suggested back that perhaps it's just overcoming. And that's given me food for thought.
-List your top three movies.-What common thread do the movies have?-Any chance that common theme is something you are passionate about?
What about you?
What are your top three movies? Do they have a common thread that illuminates your purpose, passion, and place in the world?
Do share!

What an interesting idea. I couldn't even answer with my three favorite movies off the top of my head--would have to think about it. Thank you for the "food for thought."
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, Kim, this really has me thinking. I love so many movies! One of my favorites is The Shawshank Redemption. I love Up (I know, I know but my boys aren't THAT old yet). And, of course, The Lord of the Rings. What is the common thread there? Justice? Not really in UP. Hmm. You've given me some food for thought :)
ReplyDeleteLaura, I'll hardly ever watch a movie twice, but all three of yours are ones I've seen repeatedly (even UP). Plus the Harry Potter movies. Good choices. I don't know...I think I can see justice in UP...and something like rising above what you could let hold you down. Let me know if it comes clearer for you.
ReplyDeleteI'd be very curious what movies you come up with, Anne!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim. I saw you at Amy's place. Just to have a look at your place. I like the way you write. Your posting is simple but meaningful. Do visit mine too. I'm one of Amy's ardent followers.

ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI am not exactly sure how I ended up at your blog, I found todays post very interesting, especially the movie part, because my favorite movies of all times, ones that I have seen dozens of times, are schindlers list, Taken and Shawshank Redemption, all movies about slavery, redemption or both for which I am passionate about human trafficking so I found this very interesting. Glad I found you.

my top three movies – and you'd never guess them –
ReplyDeleteMulholland Drive
Josie and the pussycats
coyote ugly
Seriously – I told you you would never guess. Mulholland Drive is a movie that no one saw because he came out the month of 9/11. To me it's about dealing with messes before the messes turn into monsters. Josie and the pussycats and coyote ugly – they're both about dreams and fulfilling them – but not at any cost.
the common thread in all of them is to keep moving – keep striving – and not to give up – and not to live in fantasy but live in reality. And that's pretty much what I'm doing. Yay me! Thank you for this – I had to stretch my mind for this one. Well done my friend – and God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours.
I like a ton of old movies...love Narnia, Lord of the Rings and John Wayne. Now I have a lot to think about! =)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I love this post. What a great tip...I'll have to think it through.
ReplyDeleteI like such variety, but I do watch Sleepless in Seattle, You've got mail and It's a wonderful life over and over. Not sure what that says about me other than I'm a romantic? But it sounds kind of shallow to me, except for It's a wonderful life which speaks about love, faith and overcoming. Or happy endings? hmmm, maybe you have some thoughts? Be gentle...hahaha!
oh my goodness...top three movies? That is hard! Color Purple, Secret Life of Bees and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Not sure what those say about my passion...maybe the transformation and growth of women?!
